1.7.9. Spare wheel

Cars can be completed both a low-dimensional spare wheel, and the spare wheel unified with other wheels of the car.

The spare wheel unified with other wheels of the car
The car is equipped with a spare wheel with the tire of the same type, dimension and model that are established on other four wheels of the car. It allows to use a spare wheel both for replacement of the damaged wheel, and for periodic shift of wheels.

Low-dimensional spare wheel
The low-dimensional wheel differs in smaller weight and in the sizes. The low-dimensional wheel is intended only for short-term use in case of damage of a wheel of the car. Car run on a low-dimensional spare wheel should be limited by small distance. It is forbidden to use a low-dimensional wheel for long movement on considerable distances.
When using a low-dimensional spare wheel stability of movement of the car can worsen in comparison with a case when on the car all four wheels of normal dimension are established. Therefore, operating the car, be especially careful. In order to avoid damage of a low-dimensional spare wheel or the car observe the following precautionary measures.
– Do not exceed speed of 80 km/h.
– Avoid moving through obstacles in the road. Besides, do not call in on the mechanized automobile sink. As diameter of a low-dimensional wheel is less in comparison with the regular wheels established on the car, the road gleam of the car will decrease approximately on 10–25 mm.
– It is forbidden to establish an antisliding chain as it does not approach to this wheel on a spare wheel.
– It is forbidden to establish a low-dimensional spare wheel on cars of other brands and models. The low-dimensional spare wheel is intended only for this model of the car.
– On the car it is authorized to establish no more than one low-dimensional spare wheel at the same time.

To remove a spare wheel, turn out a fixing bolt (fig. 1.141).
For fixing of a spare wheel in a place of its storage densely tighten a bolt by hand to choose люфт a spare wheel.

The operations described below, can be used both for replacement of wheels, and for shift of wheels. By preparation for replacement of the lowered wheel be convinced that the selector is in the situation "R" ("Parking") (an automatic transmission) or the lever of gear shifting is in the provision of transfer of a backing (a mechanical transmission) and the parking brake is switched on.

Wrap up a piece of a fabric round the montazhka end not to damage a surface of caps and disks. Insert an assembly key into a groove of a wheel cap, accurately wring out and remove a cap (fig. 1.143).
Prepare a spare wheel and tools.

Take out from a luggage carrier a spare wheel, a jack, the handle of a jack and a bag for tools.

For prevention of moving of the car at a raising its jack establish brake boots (persistent blocks) under a wheel located from the opposite side on a diagonals in relation to a replaced wheel (fig. 1.144).
Before lifting the car, it is necessary to weaken an inhaling of wheel nuts slightly.

To weaken an inhaling of wheel nuts, turn the key handle counter-clockwise. Be thus convinced that the key head densely covers a wheel nut. For receiving the most convenient lever, establish a key in the situation shown in drawing 1.145.
Then turn, holding a key for the handle end. Do not turn on wheel nuts completely at this stage. Only weaken their inhaling on a turn half.

The basis of a jack is necessary for placing on a firm equal surface. The jack should be located, as is shown in drawing 1.146.

Insert a key for an inhaling of wheel nuts into the jack handle, as is shown in drawing 1.147.
To lift the car, rotate the jack handle clockwise. When the jack will start to lift the car, repeatedly check reliability of its installation. If the jack is on soft soil or sand, probably it is required to enclose under it whetstone, a flat stone or other subject that he did not go to the earth. Lift the car on sufficient height for installation of completely beefy wheel.

Remove a wheel cap (the additional equipment) from a wheel. Use a key for weakening of an inhaling of wheel nuts then turn out them hands, remove a wheel and put it on the earth that it was not left (fig. 1.148).
To put on a wheel a nave, lift it, combine openings with hairpins and put on them a wheel. If it is difficultly to make it, slightly incline a wheel and combine at first the top opening with a hairpin. Then пошатайте a wheel to insert the remained hairpins into wheel openings.

Before establishing a wheel into place, be convinced of lack of extraneous materials on a nave or a wheel (dirt, tar, gravel, etc.) which can prevent wheel installation on a nave. If they are – remove their (fig. 1.149).
If good contact between interfaced surfaces of a wheel and a nave is not provided, wheel nuts can be turned off that can lead to loss of a wheel and control loss over the car.

To establish a wheel cap, holding it on a wheel, screw wheel nuts on a carving and tighten them by hand. Nuts it is necessary to establish a konusny part inside (fig. 1.150).
Shake a wheel to be convinced that it completely sat down on a place, and again tighten wheel nuts by hand.

Lower the car on the earth, turning the jack handle counter-clockwise. Establish a key in 1.151 situation shown in drawing and tighten wheel nuts.
Be convinced that the key head densely covers a wheel nut. At an inhaling of nuts of fastening of a wheel it is forbidden to rise a foot on a ballonny key or to extend the last by means of a pipe as it can lead to a nut peretyazhka.
Serially tighten all wheel nuts. Repeatedly check density of an inhaling of all nuts.
After wheel replacement, as soon as possible provide the car to the expert that the mechanic could tighten wheel nuts the correct moment of an inhaling.

Steel disk and disk from an aluminum alloy: 90–110 kPas.
After installation of a wheel remove a cap of the gate and check pressure of air in the tire.
If pressure of air in the tire is higher recommended, pit it to the demanded size.
After replacement of wheels always fix the lowered wheel in a luggage carrier and clean in storage places a jack, the handle of a jack and tools.
